The Philadelphia Eagles wrap up another extremely disappointing season Sunday vs the New York Giants. The Eagles are 4-11 and have been mathematically eliminated for weeks, but there is still a chance for the Giants and spoiling the arch rivals playoff hopes would ease the pain for the fans. Here are 5 things to watch for in the week 17 matchup.
Turnovers have plagued the Eagles all year. Quarterback Michael Vick returns to the lineup this week and he is no stranger to turning the ball over. If the Eagles fail to hang on to the ball, this one could get out of hand quick.
Playcalling:Throughout Andy Reid’s tenure in Philadelphia, he has heavily favored the pass over the run. The Eagles can’t afford to drop Michael Vick back to pass 50 times this week, it will result in turnovers and injury. Look for the Eagles to call a conservative, run based offense this week.
The Eagles have been atrocious in the secondary ever since Juan Castillo was fired. Eli Manning isn’t afraid to put it up for grabs with a deep ball and the Giants have a ton of good receiving threats. The Eagles need to capitalize on opportunities and not blow coverages if they want to have a chance in this game.
Offensive Line Play:
The Eagles offensive line has been nothing short of terrible this season. They blow assignments and let their quarterback get hit on almost every single play. With Jason Pierre-Paul, Justin Tuck, and Osi Umenyiora coming to town, King Dunlap and company will need to keep their signal caller off the ground.
How will Andy Reid go out?
It’s no secret that things will likely be blown up in this offseason. With that being said, it’s probably Andy Reid’s last game. It will be very interesting to see how some of the veterans respond to the fact that it is likely Reid’s last game as Head Coach. Will they help him go out with a bang?
I believe that Michael Vick will come out and play well and the Eagles will run the ball effectively. Ultimately I see the Giants being too much for the Eagles poor secondary and will put up a ton of points. The Eagles will keep it interesting, but I believe that the Giants will win, 34-27.
