The Philadelphia 76ers bounced back from a horrible loss last night to the Wizards. Elton Brand had his best game of the season, scored 25 points and led the Sixers to a 95-90 win over the Atlanta Hawks.
The Hawks held a four-point lead going into the fourth quarter. But then Brand took over. He tied it at 70 with a 15 foot jumper, tied it again at 72 with a layup and then gave the Sixers the lead at 73-72 with a free throw. The Sixers never lost that lead. Brand ended up going five of six from the field and scored 13 points in the quarter. He also had 10 rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots for the game.
Andre Iguodala also had a strong game for the Sixers, hitting three of four treys, scoring 18 and grabbing eight boards.
The top scorer of the game was the Hawks’ Josh Smith with 34 points and 8 rebounds.
If the Sixers don’t win the Atlantic Division, they hold the tiebreaker over the Hawks in the playoff seeding. That could be important, as it might help the Sixers avoid playing the Heat in the first round. A preview of how bad that matchup might be for the Sixers will be seen on Tuesday, when they play in Miami.
