UPDATE: 1:58 pm EST — 1/3/2012: Per a report on NFL.com, Andy Reid will begin cancelling trips to San Diego and Arizona. Per the report, “One person whom Reid has spoken with believes a deal is getting close with the Chiefs, who are making a hard push to keep the coach from talking to other teams.”
UPDATE: 10:36 am EST — 1/3/2012: Per a report on ESPN.com, Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs are extremely close to finalizing a deal. One source close to Reid informed ESPN “this is going to happen fast.”
Other sources such as Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com reports that while negotiations went well between Reid and Kansas City, Reid still intends on interviewing with Arizona and San Diego before ultimately making a decision.
Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid was reported to having two destinations on Wednesday. First stop was in Kansas City to interview with the Chiefs. His final stop of the day was in Arizona to interview with the Cardinals.
There was a lot of speculation that Reid was going to sign with the Cardinals and that a Reid/Kevin Kolb reunion was inevitable. Reid’s wife also has close ties in Arizona making the Cardinals an ideal location to become a head coach for.
However, According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Reid either forgot he had a second interview to attend to, which is extremely unlikely, or the Chiefs made him an offer he couldn’t refuse because he never made it to Arizona. There’s also the very real possibility that Reid simply missed his flight due to an extended meeting with the Chiefs.
