Today, the Eagles released their preseason schedule taking on two of the AFC North, with the and two teams from the AFC east. Similar to last years schedule, the Eagles will most likely have their starters play the 1st quarter, and then have the back-ups and third-string unit to play the rest.
There are a lot of fans who believe the preseason isn’t really important. However, to a player fighting for a roster spot will tell you just the opposite. Roster spots are crucial, adding dept to a team is a must, and with the preseason, teams can do just that and determine who they will cut, and keep. Don’t tell players that are indeed fighting for a job that the preseason isn’t important because making the team, and being cut, is just one snap of the finger away.
With the preseason schedule being released, the Eagles will try out some new plays that they haven’t used before in a game, and just because a team does good in the preseason, doesn’t mean they will be successful in the regular season (The 2008 Detroit Lions went 4-0 in the preseason, and then went on a historical season of failure becoming the only team ever to go 0-16)
After OTA’s and training camp, the team will be hungry to showcase what they’ve learned, and yound players will have a chance to prove themselves and impress the coaches of their current team, or if cut, maybe impress the coach of other team.
Since Nike is now the official producer of NFL jerseys, teams with new jerseys will get to showcase the new uniforms in style, while the fans enjoy themselves and ready themselves to what should be an exciting season to look forward to. The Eagles will indeed be hungry and ready to show what they’ve got to bring to the table in 2012 since to end of last year.
