The Eagles announced today that they have cut cornerback Cliff Harris. He might be the first name that fans recognize on the cut list since he did make a few notable plays in preseason.
Harris was undrafted out of Oregon, where he won All-American honors as a return man. So Eagles fans were excited that he might provide the spark that has been missing from the return game recently. He also had the reputation as good pass defender. But he had some difficulties with off the field activities that cut his college career short.
Certainly it was the emergence of Brandon Boykin and Demaris Johnson as return men that contributed to this decision. And then there are the seven cornerbacks that are ahead of him on the depth chart: Nnamdi Asomugha, Joselio Hanon, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Curtis Marsh, Trevard Lindley, Brandon Hughes, and Boykin. Not all of these players will make the team, either.
So the cuts continue and Harris will get his chance to hook up with another NFL team.
