It appears that the Philadelphia Eagles punting battle has come to a close. The Eagles have waived punter Mat McBriar. That means that incumbent starter Chas Henery will keep his roster spot with the Eagles after all.
Most Philadelphia Eagles beat writers had written Henery off for what seemed to be a healed and rejuvenated McBriar. However, Henery’s accurate punting within the 20, and even within the 10, has been deadly accurate throughout the preseason. His leg clearly was not as strong as McBriar’s, but accuracy is an underrated trait for punters. Speaking of underrated values, Henery’s ability to hold for kicker Alex Henry was a key, if not the key, for Henery making the Eagles final roster.
On a semi-related note, that brings the Eagles roster to 74 with presumably 21 more cuts (or trades) to go. Who else goes? Who stays? With Andy Reid shockingly announcing Akeem Jordan a starter and the favorite for the punting job waived, what other surprises do the Eagles have for their fans in the next few days? Who knows, but it certainly is an exciting time of year!
