We all remember the announcement that Philadelphia Eagles Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Babin made in late May — his desire to travel to Pamplona Spain to run with the bulls. Some fans thought this was Babin simply being Babin, one who doesn’t take anything for granted and wishes to live life to the fullest. Others felt as though this was just the craziest thing they’ve ever heard due to the fear of Babin enduring a serious injury during his run.
Soon after Babin made the announcement that he would not be joining the festivities in Spain.
During an interview on CSNPhilly.com, Babin was asked what ultimately changed his mind in regards to entertain the bull-running experience and he stated that Eagles head coach “Big Red” had a lot to do with it.
“Big Red called me into his office and asked me very nicely — let’s put it like that — to, ah, not do it.” Babin also said that Reid continued by politely asking Jason to “save it for retirement — he’s my boss, so, I gotta respect him.”
During the brief interview Babin was smiling the whole time. So it appears that Reid asking Babin to hold off on his desire to run with 2,000 pound horned animals isn’t a big deal. Still, Babin is definitely the adventurous kind of guy. He spent some of his time this past spring doing some bear hunting in the Alaskan wilderness, spends a lot of time at Babin Ranch, and zip-lined across Niagra falls. So something tells me this is not the last time we will hear of Babin potentially going to Spain to live out his dream and run with these massive beasts.
Babin is indeed wise to listen to Reid in this instance. Have you ever seen the episode of “Everybody Loves Raymond” when Ray’s brother Robert got gored by a bull? That was funny, but if Babin got gored — that wouldn’t be so funny!
Chin up Babin, you’re time to run will come. Hopefully many years from now!
